2006 Athlete of the Year Award -- Sarah Pavan

Congratulations to Sarah Pavan for her accomplishments on the volleyball courts in 2006, recipient of  KW and area's 9th annual Athlete of the Year award. 

 

 

 

Athlete of the Year Dinner held April 23, 2007

Held in support of local athletes, Big Brothers & Big Sisters and Camp McGovern in the Subscribers' Lounge at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. ($5,000 was donated to Camp McGovern.)

Sarah Pavan: Recipient of the 2006 Athlete of the Year Award

Sarah, at age 16,  became the youngest player ever to make the Canadian National Senior Women’s Team.  As the first Canadian to play varsity volleyball for Nebraska University, she was named 2004 National Freshman and was a 1st team All-American, and was the 2005 Big 12 Player of the Year.
 Performance Highlights:

  • Honda National Female Volleyball Player of the Year
  • ESPN Magazine Academic All-American of the Year
  • American Volleyball Coaches Association National Player of the Year
  • MVP of the NCAA Division I National Championship

2006 Athlete of the Year Nominees

In addition to the Athlete of the Year, Sarah Pavan, others honoured for their achievements in 2006 (and prior) were:

Chesley Aubry -- Basketball

Rebecca Barras -- Diving

Luca Congi -- Football

David Edgar -- Soccer

Miranda Ranieri -- Squash

Erin Scherer -- Figure Skating

Mark Sommerfeld -- Golf

Kelly Vanderbeek -- Alpine Skiing

The event featured NHL star Paul Coffey who served as Honorary Chairman and was a perfect role model to speak to the nominees as they strive to be the best in their fields. Paul's accomplishments on the ice include: 4 Stanley Cup wins, 3 Norris Trophy awards, 11th Leading Scorer in NHL history, and the single-season record in scoring by defencemen with 48 goals in 1986!
