It's a whole new year!

Kitchener Rangers night

 Social: 6:00 p.m   Dinner seating: 6:30 p.m.

Edelweiss Sports Bar

Guest speaker: Mike McKenzie, Rangers GM

Updates, insights and lots of discussion!

Mike updated attendees on the recent trade activity he'd been up to. Not much discussion on the would'ves, and none on the could'ves, but lots on the revamped roster and future potential. Mike stayed on the podium and answered the questions thrown his way -- lots of them!  We thanks Mike, the Rangers organization and the directors for not only making this event possible, but for participating as well.

Before Mike's presentation, Rick Weinstein (KSA Coordinator of the Rangers) 50/50 draw brought attendees up to date on the draws. With the new electronic process, sales per games are up substantially and we're well on the way to surpass the record $290,000+ set in the Memorial Cup year (2008). Rick pointed out to Mike that success on the ice generates more 50/50 revenue -- and more help to local minor sports!

Five cheques were presented by Jean Howitt (Chair, Athlete of the Year Program) to sports groups designated by nominees for the 2016 Athlete of the Year and recipients of the 2017 Awards of Excellence. In total, 12 organizations shared $3,000 for their local sports programs. The ones included at this event were:

  • Alyssa Lagonia - Kitchener Soccer Club - accepted by Tim Hart, manager
  • Dhane Smith - Kitchener Minor Lacrosse-  accepted by Jason Breau, president
  • Kevin Sorley - K-W Sidewinders Sledge Hockey -  accepted by Brian Steele, president
  • Garrett Rank - Woolwich Minor Hockey - accepted by Jeff MacGregor, execuitve member
  • Darryl Fitzgerald - Heritage Greens Lawn Bowling  - accepted by Agnes Bajkal, coaching director
