In 1944, a group of sports and community-minded individuals formed the Kitchener Sports Association in response to the need for an all-event, year-round sports and entertainment facility.
Working closely with the City of Kitchener, KSA’s dream was realized with the opening of the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in the spring of 1950. In 1989, KSA provided funding for the building of the Teaching Theatre at the Aud and has been directly involved with the on-going renovation and improvement of the Aud. complex including the track paving at Centennial Stadium in 1996 and the Kraut Memorial in 2003.

Since 1989, KSA has held an annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner whereby each organizations nominate a deserving volunteer. The KSA continues to sponsor local athletes and minor sports with numerous grants and is always receptive to receiving requests for assistance.
In 2006 the KSA established a Legacy Fund to help ensure the support can be maintained for future generations. Donations are always welcome and are tax deductible when made though this fund.
