Guest Speaker – Don McKee
Hockey Coach
 
      Don McKee, a Kitchener native, has enjoyed significant success in coaching hockey at various levels. Following four years of coaching junior hockey teams, Kitchener in the 1970's and Guelph in the early 1980's, Don coached the University of Waterloo Warriors men's hockey team for 13 seasons (1985-98) with a phenomenal record (201-84-29) = a  .700 winning %.  In 1998-99, he coached the Sheffield Steelers of the British Superleague. McKee then turned professional, coaching the Odessa Jackalopes (Central Hockey League) from 1999-2006 with a 241-159-52 winning record, and was twice named as the CHL Coach of the Year (2000-01 and 2001-02). The last two seasons, Don was the head hockey coach of the Lakehead University Thunderwolves of Thunder Bay, of the Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union. 
     Don is a life-long educator and coach, with a Master's degree in Physical Education from California State University - Long Beach, a BA from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a graduate of the Stratford Teachers' College.   He encouraged the student/athletes to pursue their goals and dreams, taking  things one step at a time and not being discouraged by others or temporary setbacks. He wished them all the best with their upcoming unversity studies, sports and careers.

Scholarship Presentations
           All current scholarship winners receive $1,000 towards their first year's tuition and a further $1,000 towards their second year's tuition. To date there have been 68 KSA Scholarships awarded. Congratulations to all recipients, well done!
 
Grace Arnott
 
    Grace Arnott is an accomplished soccer player (U18 rep. team) with over 10 years experience and attends Eastwood Collegiate with intentions of attending WLU and then becoing a teacher.

Oliver Grant
    Oliver Grant plays many sports including soccer & hockey and is also a star on the track for both his school, Eastwood, and the local track clubs. Next year will see him at U of Waterloo studying Physics in the first leg of his pusuit of a career in research.

 Nadia Qahwash
 
      Nadia Qahwash, a Grand River student, intends to attend York University and study Kinesiology and/or Physiotherapy. She's an accomplished basketball player both with her school and KW Lightning teams.

 Adam Schmidt
    
     Adam Schmidt has been active for years in baseball, lacrosse and hockey (AAA) as well as on numerous Forest Heights Collegiate teams. After getting a degree in Kinesiology, Adam plans to become a high-school teacher and coach.

            Special Scholarship
for K-W Ladies Rangers hockey team
 Lauren Coxon
 
Lauren Coxon is the first recipient of the new KSA Scholarship awarded to a member of the K-W Rangers Hockey Club -  the local elite Junior Women's hockey team playing in the PWHL. She'll be pursuing her hockey career at Wayne State next year and is looking forward to a career in the criminal justice system.
